EUCALYPTUS GLOBULUS (Eucalyptus)

The original home of the eucalyptus tree - Eucalyptus globules- is Australia. There, its healing power was already valued by the natives – the Aborigines. The volatile oil is primarily extracted from Eucalyptus globules. It is also commonly known as fever tree, because eucalyptus oil reduces fever with infectious illnesses. It is mostly used for its strong germicidal effects and ability to reduce swelling of the mucous membranes in infections of the respiratory tract. The oil in the leaves and twigs is extracted by water steam distillation. 50 kilograms of the dried plant material produce approx. 1 kilogram of this oil. Eucalyptus globulus is a medicinal product according to the European pharmacopoeia. The main component of the oil is eucalyptol. It has strong germicidal, disinfecting, cough-reducing, fever-controlling and stimulating attributes. Due to its positive effect on neuralgia and muscle pain, it is also included in many anti-rheumatism drugs.
